So this segment has been lacking lately, mainly because I haven't been reading. Turns out no cable, minimal cleaning, and no other hobbies to suck up my time was good for my reading! The time spent in GA I read 5 books and since we've come back I've read none. I have visited the library, however, and gotten books to read, now I just need to actually read them!
The one I've started reading I'm excited about. It's called Mind In The Making written by Ellen Galinsky. This was in the new releases section at the library and seems to keep with the theme of NutureShock. This book talks about the 7 life skills every child needs and I enjoy the fact that it has a "never too late" mentality! So many of the parenting books and crazy DVD's are based on the premise that you have a magic window up until age 5 and if you miss it your screwed. This has no such theory! I have only read the introduction so far but I am looking forward to reading her suggestions on how to teach children these skills. The first skill: focus and self control. Perhaps we all should be reading this book.
The other 2 I checked out were Food Matters by Mark Bittman and The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Hopefully next week I'll have more to report on the Book Nook!
