Don't you love it when...

...a simple trip to the store for sippy cups turns into a wild goose chase!

Ok first, a bit of background on where this post came from.

Well the DD will only drink out of soft spout cups apparently. I thought I would be good on sippy cups since we have about a dozen from my son. They are the normal, non-leaking Playtex cups that I love. I thought after she got the hang of using a cup I'd switch her to those and life would be good, after all my son had no problem.

And that my folks is where Easy Street ends! I started her off on the Gerber Sip & Smile soft spout cup with an angled lid. The DS had a terrible time learning to tip his cup so these were perfect for him. Since I already had them it's what I gave her too. Well we only had 4 which I figured would be fine since they were just a transitional cup. We were doing great until we lost one on July 4th!! For some reason I was managing fine with 4 but now with 3 not so much.

Really didn't make a big deal of it at first, just thought this was the perfect time to pack those suckers up and get her using the "real" sippy cups. Au contraire. The DD had other plans as in refusing to drink out of the one cup we have 20 of! Usually I would tough it out knowing eventually they will drink, however with her poor weight gain and our doctors appointment next Friday for a weight check I don't think I can afford to do that right now with her.

Now fast forward to last weekend. On a whim I decided to give her a straw cup to see what would happen. Well lo and behold the little stinker guzzled it right down!! Now we do have a handful of these but while I once loved them (thinking they were finally a straw cup that didn't leak), I now HATE them! The more time that goes on the more they leak. They leak out of the lid when on it's side and for some odd reason the liquid will come back up the straw and you have a puddle from that! Really don't ask me how since they have a "no-spill" valve.

So on Tuesday I went out to get the Muchkin Mighty Grips straw cup. A friend of mine uses them and loves them so I would give them a try. I'm telling you they couldn't possibly be worse. I had to go to Target anyhow to grab a few things so I would buy half a dozen with one of her birthday gift cards and life would be good. I should have known it wouldn't be that easy.

I decided to "treat" myself and go to the bigger, nicer Target that's 20 mins away instead of the tiny one 5 mins away figuring they would be more likely to have the Toy Story backpack I was ISO and the sippy cups. Well the bigger, nicer Target had....NEITHER!! All they had were the Muchkin spout cups and a sport straw cup. Nice, I thought to myself. My 12 month old doesn't need a cool flip top lid for her cup. I just want the plain, base model straw cup not the decked out version!

So later I went out and happened to be by the close Target so I popped in quick to check. They had the backpack (thankfully because apparently that's a hot item right now) but no cups! I am starting to get the impression that Target may no longer carry that style, at least not around here. And now I am quite peeved, I really don't want to have to order sippy cups! Seriously people that seems a tad bit ridiculous to me.

I suppose I will be running to Babies-R-Us today to see if perhaps they have the elusive cup my daughter has deemed worthy enough to touch her lips. It may be worth noting that it's a combined BRU/TRU, maybe just maybe I'll get lucky...

  1. I hate all sippy cups. I bought the straw kind too and found they they all now leak. I found awesome sippy cups that were awesome, for awhile. Now being run through the dishwasher and hand washed five zillion times has destroyed the plug seal (I guess) and now they too leak. One day they will make a sippy cup that does not leak and that will be a great day for mommy.

  2. We are now down to 8 of the flip-top kind for the two of them. The non-flip-top kind are a rarity, though BRU is the place that tends to have them. My only warning is that the non-flip kind die much sooner since the straws get chewed through pretty fast. For some reason this does not seem to happen with the flip ones. HTH!

  3. Alexis thanks for the tip! I may end up having to get the flip top if I don't find the others. I'm checking out BRU today and if no luck then off to get the flip top kind I go. It sounds like you'll be replenishing your stock soon too.
