I DID IT!!
So being one who gets right on the wagon when I decide (finally) to do something I googled 5K's in our area and planned to do the first one there was! Turns out that it was this past Sunday at a local elementary school. I got my parents to watch the kids and dragged the DH along with me.
Side note - I am completely jealous of the fact that the DH can not run for months and then just go out and run 3+ miles, then he has the nerve to make fun of me for "training" for a 5K. I'm sorry but normal people can't just get up off the couch and run 3 miles, why else would the Couch to 5K program be so wildly popular!
Anyway, this actually became a goal of mine last year but the timing never fit during the first half of the year (when I probably could have done it) and then I fell off the wagon quite a bit the second half of the year and was scared I couldn't do it. So I didn't. This year I was more determined and made it a known goal, knowing that there would be some accountability there. The main goal being that I wanted to run the entire thing. No walking or I would have to do another one!
It's funny sometimes how something so minimal can make you so proud, seems almost silly. I guess most of that comes from the fact that I made a goal, worked toward that goal, and accomplished said goal. At any rate it feels good. I ran the entire 5K and ran it almost a minute faster than I ever had before, 32 minutes 43 seconds to be exact! Even the DH was surprised at the number, he was figuring a 40 minute finish time. In his defense he's seldom home when I run and we never get to run together so he has no idea how "fast" I run, he just generally knows I run slow.
So, I did it! I'm happy that I did it and that I can check off one more goal of mine. After all, who doesn't like checking things off their list!

Super excited for you. It feels awesome to accomplish something you've wanted to do for so long. We totally need to do a 5k together
ReplyDeleteAwesome, lets do one together in the fall. I need a goal race and you can be my pace girl...seeing how you clearly go much faster than I do :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a plan ladies!
ReplyDeleteSarah - Once we figure out the logistical nightmare I'm game, though we only have until July.
And Alexis a fall race would be wonderful because then it will give me motivation to stick with the running. I already feel the excuses coming! Slow and steady wins the race so I wouldn't worry about speed. I certainly don't, I focus on distance so I run slower to go farther. Some of the reason I was so much faster was because Brian would stay just ahead of me and I felt bad for holding him back so I pushed. After the race that punk told me that was his plan!
