This week my mind has been quite busy! I've come to many realizations and made many observations of all sorts of random stuff. I was going to post tomorrow for FYMF but that has met an timely demise so you get it now!
a) About a month ago I stopped drinking soda during the week, I try to only drink it on the weekends. I do cheat on occasion, about once a week I crack but hey I never said I was perfect. Anyway I have noticed that I am a good 2 pounds lighter come the weekend then I am come Monday. "They" always said it causes bloating and water weight but I guess I am seeing that that's actually true. I'm sure it's more pronounced since we tend to splurge on the weekends too but I never noticed the difference (or it'd be a half a pound) before I stopped the soda.
b) Thanks to the "rule" mentioned above I now have a child that will drink water!! This may not seem like a big deal but for us it's huge. My son refused to drink water so I took to giving him 3 ozs juice in 8 ozs water. It's still strange to me when he asks for a glass of water!
c) I hate the smell of molasses! I noticed this when making the dough for a gingerbread house. That stuff is awful. I can't even described the smell, it's almost like a rotten foot smell with a tinge of sweet.
d) Royal icing is the weirdest stuff ever. It's liquid and solid all at the same time! If you go slow it will flow pretty well but try to squeeze the piping bag really hard and it barely moves. Crazy stuff (I know, easily amused). Closest thing I can think of like it: flubber.
e) Piping bags are no good for carpal tunnel, especially with nice thick royal icing. Now I know I could never go into the cake decorating business.
f) I have a handful of presents left to sew, all for the same family. Funny thing is that they are the only ones I have to mail stuff to but I am making theirs last. Took me forever to think of what to do but I better get on it! Good news is that all other presents are bought and/or made!! I think this is the earliest I've been done.
g) My son got invited to a birthday party and I thought about not going simply because I actually had to call to RSVP. You see, I enjoy meeting new people, however, I am no good at starting conversations. I have no idea what to say and am scared of looking/sounding like an idiot. I was praying for an email address so I could just send a message but there was only a phone number. I've always been this way so it's nothing new but I have found that, in person, I can typically get by because once someone starts talking to me I am good to go. This particular call caused even more problems since it's a boy from my sons school and I have never met his mom. It took me about 10 mins for me to figure out how to introduce myself. I couldn't just say "Hi, this is Alicen". Long story short I ended up calling and we're going on Saturday but OY! Why does meeting new people have to be so difficult?
h) We've been having some ridiculously cold weather lately and it is reminding me all too much how much I do not like the winter! It's not that I hate the winter it's just that I live the entire winter as a popsicle! I get a chill I can't seem to get rid of and it's starting quite early this year with temps in the low 30's, upper 20's. People always complain about how it just doesn't feel like Christmas when it's 80° outside but I'm thinking freezing your ass off while trying to do holiday festivities is HIGHLY overrated!
i) I finally broke down and made an appointment with a local consignment store. I am so sick of this stuff sitting in our house that I just want it gone! This consignment store is much better than the other one I used, they actually give you 40% of what they sell it for. Not 50 cents like the other place but what I didn't realize then was that they're a franchise. Big ticket items I'll still try and sell privately but the clothes are out of here. Only bad thing is that they only accept 30 items at a time and I have about 300!
I totally understand about letter "g", I have the same problem myself sometimes. I feel the need to seriously overthink how the conversation will go to avoid sounding like an idiot. Glad you were able to work through it, hope you guys have fun :)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I hate the phone. It just seems so rude to interrupt someone's day and what not. With that said I love getting phone calls, but with the advent of text, e-mail, facebook etc. I often prefer those methods. I guess I am a child of the millennium! Add in that meeting new people literally gives me stress hives because I so not good in social situations where I have to refrain from saying things like "are you serious b/c that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard?" and yeah, I may never seek out new friends TYVM!
