2) Ok now that we got that out of the way this weekend is completely jam packed. It's all extremely fun stuff but why does everything always have to happen at the same time? In no particular order we have a class party, Halloween organ concert (which is absolutely fabulous!), football game, tailgating, Toy Story 3 on Ice and of course trick-or-treating. Come Monday I'm gonna need to hire a babysitter so I can take a nap! Oh yeah, I've yet to make my daughters Halloween costume...guess I know what I'm doing later.
3) Bug guy came and sprayed yesterday. I am determined to not have the crickets take over our house this year. Seriously two years ago they could have filmed Revenge of the Crickets at our house. We turned on the light one night to see, no lie, about 20 of them scatter about. That was quite disturbing but less disturbing than the morning I woke up to see one right next to my pillow! I still have nightmares.
4) Also started carving pumpkins yesterday and made pumpkin seeds for the first time! My son does not like getting his hands dirty but I was proud of him. After about 20 mins of trying to neatly clean out the guts I finally convinced him to just dig in with his hands. He still didn't like it but he managed to contain his OCD long enough to get the guts out!
5) I've yet to actually finish carving them since the stupid saw broke! I was all geared up to do it and then SNAP. Brought my production to a halt. Add that to the list of stuff to do tomorrow; between the Halloween parade, class party and concert.
6) So last Friday I decided to make these cute little fruit skewers for the party. They turned out cute and were perfect for party food. They were even easy, however, I managed to get a teeny, tiny little splinter. I didn't think much of it, I thought it would work it's way out over the next couple of days. Boy was I WRONG. I almost had to go to the damn doctor over that teeny, tiny little splinter. Instead if working it's way out it managed to work into a nasty infection instead. It was lovely, the nice shades of white and purple my thumb had become. Not to mention the fact it hurt like hell and was, naturally, on my right hand. Yesterday I took the advice of my MIL and soaked it in some salt water for forever. Then I squeezed the crap out of my thumb trying to work the splinter up enough so I could grab it. Instead I squeezed it so much it exploded like a volcano and that's when I knew it had become infected. I'll spare all the nasty details but I think the eruption also pushed out the splinter! It's still sore and I still see a bit of white but I no longer feel like my thumb is going to fall off.
7) I hope, one day, my son appreciates all that I really do for him. So, got his costume a couple weeks ago but didn't open it for fear that he may change his mind. Actually I was almost convinced he would since he had 3 times! Anyway the costume is a bit big but the hat was too small. No biggie I figured, I'll just split the seam in the back, add some elastic and call it a day. I then realized that it's 2 inches too small. (Did I mention my kid has a gigantic head?) No way my easy fix was gonna work. He was so bummed about it so I told him I'd try to get it to work. I ended up taking the entire thing apart and making a brand new hat with new fabric, one that hopefully fits his head! I will say I'm pretty awesome and so is the hat. I just hope one day he realizes that too. Realizes that fact that I had enough to do already without throwing that in. Realizes the fact that I stressed about getting it done and stayed up too late finishing it. Realizes the fact that I'm crazy and still spent the extra time to make appliqued letters to go on it! Ok, it's my own crazy but one can always dream.
Now I must leave all you lovely folks to go spend the morning with the beloved class mom! Wish me luck that I can bite my tongue long enough so as to not make an ass out of myself. As always for more randomness head on over to The Well Read Mom and say hi to Alexis!
