It Came, It Came!!

This box contains something that I have been wanting for years!  I had asked repeatedly for it for various holidays and never unwrapped one.  I warned the husband that I was going to order one if there was leftover money in the budget and I made sure there was going to be (hehe).   I was so happy when I saw this box sitting on my front step I could hardly contain myself.

Look at it, isn't she (or he) a beauty?

Well this weekend was beyond busy but I did remember to put the bowl in the freezer yesterday.  I hit up the grocery store this morning, armed with the recipe book, and gathered the supplies.  As soon as I got home I went to work making some dark chocolate ice cream.  I based it off of Alton Browns chocolate ice cream recipe only making a few minor changes.  Anyone who knows me could probably have guessed it was going to be chocolate.  Anywhoo this was a custard base ice cream and was a completely new experience to me.  I was very nervous about cooking the eggs while trying to temper them.  I'm pleased to report I did not and everything went as planned!  Here it is getting all creamy and frozen!!

I can say that it is DELICIOUS!  There is just something about using simple ingredients with no additives.  It is also very rich but that's ok because I can only eat a small amount.  May be the only way I don't turn into a blimp!  I do admit that this is quickly becoming an obsession.  I was still making this first batch and was already planning another batch!  Then I'm browsing through recipes and the whole time I'm going "Ooh, I'll make that for so & so", "So & so would love that!".  Don't be surprised if you know me and your local if you end up with a batch of ice cream real soon, there's only so much we can eat.  I think tomorrow I am going to try some cantaloupe sorbet.  That will be good because 1) there's not as many calories and 2) my daughter could actually eat it.

Good thing I started running again....
