Want to save time and money?
Use one day a week (or every couple of weeks) and dice a bunch of carrots, onions, bell peppers and celery then freeze them! Next time your recipe calls for a cup of onion just grab it out of the freezer and throw it in your meal.
It saves you a ton of prep time and even some money in the process allowing you to still have a nice wholesome meal even on a busy weeknight!

I can see how combining this with weekly meal planning would double the return on your efforts. Take an hour and chop everything you need for the upcoming weeks and/or base your upcoming meals on what is already chopped...When we are back in the burbs and I have to get a grip on real shopping, this will be very useful!
ReplyDeleteYes that is another major time saver! I plan to do just that eventually but first I want to get consistent with meal planning. As the kiddos are getting older and they both are starting to eat what's actually cooked this will be very beneficial. I figure take one day and chop the ingredients needed for each meal, place them in a ziplock then when it's time to cook just pull out that days meat and ziplock and your set!
ReplyDeleteFor you with your grocery store right across the road (so jealous) I can see how meal planning is not a big deal but once you get to CT meal planning definitely helps unless you want to run to the store everyday. I personally hate that last minute ingredient I thought I had but actually don't! Talk about adding more stress to an already stressful time.
