Thursdays Thought

First I want to preface this with the fact it has nothing to do with food. Well maybe in some crazy pulling on strings, round-a-bout kinda way but not directly.

So I have just started reading Overdosed America: The Broken Promise of American Medicine by John Abramson, M.D. I was actually looking for another book when the title caught my eye! With all the talk about healthcare reform and the rising costs I am sure all of us are thinking about it too, being fleeting thoughts or intense conversation.

I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for something to read, it's an eye opener! It basically talks about the change in doctor-patient relationships as a result of misinformation, or twisting of the info, given by the pharmaceutical companies in order to make higher profits.

I was already hooked just by the cover since the DH and I talk all the time about how instead of getting healthy the old fashion way, now you can just get a pill for each ailment and live to be 100! Also we frequently talk about how inappropriate drug commercials are. Aren't just you just asking for patients who come in demanding said drug? Oh wait, I guess that's the point.

Anyway I haven't read much so I can't go on to very much detail about the book just yet but as shown above it's a topic talked about frequently in our house.
