Updates

Just a brief update about my progress on the list I posted last week.  I actually have managed to get a few things checked off the list.  Most of what was on the list was things being done this week anyway so I am pleased.

First off the Carrot Kugel.  It was DELICIOUS!!!  If you like pumpkin pie or sweet potato pie you will love this.  The best part is, it's guilt free!  Being made with carrots (or I'd imagine you could modify it and make with sweet potato too) and very little sugar it's a great way to enjoy a desert without sacrificing all your efforts.  Or you have the option of eating it every night and not feeling bad about it.  I have to say I was seriously surprised by how delicious this was and how much it tasted like pumpkin pie.

I also gave the green shake a try.  I couldn't follow the recipe exactly since the cilantro I had started going funky.  I didn't add nearly the amount it called for and I'm sure that would have made a difference.  I will say it's an acquired taste.  I warmed up to it a bit after the first few sips but it was still a bit weird, essentially I was drinking a cucumber.  I think with a few tweaks I could create something I like though.  Also the ginger in this recipe was a bit overpowering for me, next time I will be adjusting that too and adding some lime juice.  This will be made and tried again after making some changes.

Today I finally made it out to the international market and bought the mahleb.  Since it is suppose to rain tomorrow it will be a perfect day to attempt the Choereg.  I'll be crossing my fingers, although I have had more success with non sandwich breads.

I've managed to also make some greek yogurt and homemade granola this week so all in all a very successful week!  Come back tomorrow for the homemade granola recipe, made without oil or sugar!
