So perhaps you can tell by the frequency of my posting that we have been staying out of the kitchen and spending lots of time OUTSIDE! It has been gorgeous and warm and sunny for the majority of the past 2 weeks and we are
lovin' it! Seeing as how the snow finally melted completely only
maybe 3 weeks ago we are welcoming the warmth with open arms.
Now I know the 3 of you that actually read this blog aren't crying in your boots but I digress...
Anyway I really was a slacker when it came to St. Patricks Day this year but I did make sure we all wore green and we also did something very
GREEN. We planted the seeds for our garden, as well as some basil and cilantro.

Last year I think we may have been a bit late in planting the seeds so this year I wanted to get them planted in March instead of April. We start our seeds inside and then around Memorial Day transplant them so there's no chance of frost.

The DS loves to help with the garden, and he never forgets to wear his gardening gloves! These are some well used, well loved, dirty gloves!

Here are all the pots of seeds. In a few weeks they should start to sprout and that's when it starts to getting exciting. Last year we had mixed luck with our garden. We scoped out a spot all winter and thought it would be perfect but soon discovered that really no where in our yard gets full sun! BUMMER.
Even without full sun though the cucumbers and pumpkins did great... that is until they got hit with a fungus! It was one of those things where we thought "Oh let's plant a garden" and didn't read about it or what to do until things starting happening. Not the best way to do things sometimes but it worked and we learned a lot. We also had the most delicious tasting cucumbers for a month. Our tomatoes did so-so and the bell peppers and eggplants I just think there wasn't enough sun for them. The eggplants flowered but never grew and the bell peppers finally started producing in September but were only about an inch big!

This year we are growing cucumbers, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, carrots and spaghetti squash. We may plant a few pumpkin seeds but haven't yet. We are going to do the carrots in large planters since the soil here sucks. I'm not sure if that even works but why not try. The cucumber, zucchini, and spaghetti squash will be in the garden and the tomatoes in planters too so we can move them to follow the sun. In the blue pot we planted cilantro and in the red is basil. I hope they grow nice because I would
love to have fresh herbs!!
And on a very green day it was quite appropriate to see a little green bug!
