WELCOME!

Thanks for coming to check out my newest blog dedicated to all things food related!  With all the baking and canning I have been doing lately I thought it may be best to have a separate area for all those endeavors instead of cluttering up the "family" blog with all this cooking.

Since the birth of our daughter about 7 months ago we have been trying to eat healthier and use more "whole foods" instead of the processed foods.  I have very recently gotten into canning and I can already tell this is quickly becoming an obsession but it's SO GOOD!!  As the weather gets warmer and more produce starts to come in season the canning is going to go up exponentially.

I have also decided to start making bread for my family instead of buying it.  To date I have only made 4 loafs of bread and some were good, one not so much.  I am determined to conquer bread making and will do so...eventually!  Practice makes perfect, right?  We only use about 1 loaf a week and that is very doable for making it at home.  I am not saying we will never buy bread again because there will be weeks where, lets face it, not much will get done.  I also would like to eventually try out making bagels and english muffins but I guess I should get bread down first.

Another thing I am doing is making baby food, ALL of it!  Again not to say she has never tasted the stuff in the jars, and frankly I am going to keep a few in the cabinet for "emergencies" but I have been making it so far and it's a breeze.  You read things and it makes you think that it's an exact science and you have to have "recipes" so as to not kill your baby but in all honesty I think a monkey could do it.  You take food, put in food processor or food mill, freeze the extras and Voila!  I am also finding how much cheaper it is, BONUS!!  I am also secretly hoping it will prevent some of the food issues that come later in life like what I have termed "plain jane syndrome" and the ever popular "my child only eats 4 things".  I know these are normal toddler behaviors but I am thinking if she gets used to eating the food we are eating, including the spices, maybe she won't have aversions to it later because she will be used to it.  Anyway this theory is just a wait and see kinda thing but it can't hurt.

So anyway now that you have read the book I have just written I hope you will sit back and enjoy the ride of all the success and even some failures in my attempt to go back to a "simpler" life.  And by "simpler" I don't mean less work!
